M3 Energy is continually evaluating alternative energy programs and technology applicable to the affordable housing market. As part of M3 Energy services, we inform clients of emerging opportunities such as Community Solar, which alone can yield annual savings of 8 to 12% without the need for costly solar equipment.

What is the Community Solar Program?

Community Solar Farms gives eligible utility customers the chance to receive energy credits from solar systems, known as “solar farms,” located within their local electric zone.

Each kilowatt hour generates an energy credit for YOU, reducing your utility bill every month. Plus, a portion of your participation goes towards supporting the construction of new community solar farms — helping to create a cleaner, more sustainable future.

Affordable housing providers with small commercial electric accounts - a common account type - are eligible for this program. Additionally, they may pass the offer on to their renters.

How Community Solar Works.

1.

Solar installations are constructed locally by private developers

3.

Members receive solar credits on their utility invoice

2.

Solar power enters the same electrical grid used for standard power

What Are the Typical Cost Savings?

Energy credits vary based on seasonal production (the sun naturally shines more in the summer) but members save an average of 10% off their utility bills each month. As a member you continue paying your monthly utility bill, however it will be reduced by the solar credit you receive. You will then receive a separate invoice on behalf of the Community Solar Farm, for a percentage of the credit you receive. The two bills you pay will be less than your original Utility bill, creating savings for members.

Solar Bill Explanation

This program is free and there isn’t an initiation fee, a monthly fee or an annual fee. There isn't even a fee if you change your mind, as you can cancel at any time.
